We very much regret that the MDC event due to take place in Cape Town and hosted by the South African Mint has been further postponed to 2024.
Venues that were booked with deposits paid for the event in 2020, and again for the postponed event in 2021, have committed to hold the facilities for the event to now be held in November 2024.
If you had already registered and paid for your participation, your funds are being held in an escrow account, and there they will remain. In so doing, this will ensure your attendance at the event as well as lock in the fee at the original rate for the conference (taking into account both inflation and the likelihood of additional COVID prevention costs, the fees are almost certainly going to have to increase. But yours won’t). In addition, you can transfer your registration to anyone else within your organisation at no extra cost.
Should circumstances change, and in the highly unlikely event of a cancellation, your registration fees will, of course, be refunded in full as per the conference Terms and Conditions. If you wish to cancel your registration anyway, at any time between now and November 2024, then your fees will also be refunded, less a 10% handling charge.
If you had already registered but not yet paid, then your registration has been cancelled. Should you, nevertheless, wish to attend the conference in 2024, we kindly request that you re-register for this event once the registration platform is open, nearer the time.
With regard to the coin and packaging awards, which would have taken place at MDC2020, a decision will soon be made as to whether the awards will be held virtually and with electronic entries only. However, in the meantime, the South African Mint would like to make the coins and packaging material submitted for the original competition available for collection by the nominee’s courier of choice.
